MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and/or refrigeration systems maintenance work.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in the installation, operation or maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration systems may be substituted for the two years of entry level experience on a month for month basis.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
As of November 14, 1994 employees must possess the appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).

Function of Work:
To perform major repairs and highly complex and technical installation and modification work (larger tonnage, multifunction electronic and electro-pneumatic controls, complete system installations, system modification, etc.) on all types of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and refrigeration equipment for a large complex or to serve as lead worker for a group of journeyman HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics.
Level of Work:
Advanced.
Supervision Received:
General from a HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic Foreman.
Supervision Exercised:
Lead worker over HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics, apprentices, and helpers.
Location of Work:
May be used by any state agency.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic by responsibility for major overhaul and modification of complex, large tonnage, high horsepower centrifugal chillers and other advanced HVAC systems or lead worker responsibilities.
Differs from HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic Foreman by lack of responsibility for full supervision of at least three subordinate mechanics and apprentices.

Performs highly specialized electrical power installations; pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls; and sheet metal and plumbing installations relative to each job.
Performs major replacements, new installations, and modifications of HVAC and refrigeration equipment of all sizes.
Assists in the training of HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics and apprentices.
Regulates flow and starts and stops pumps, chillers, hot water systems, etc. associated with HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Operates, regulates, and adjusts domestic and hot water boilers, circulating pumps, chillers, and refrigeration systems associated with building operation.
Performs air balancing in HVAC distribution systems.
Oversees work of subordinate HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics.
Estimates time and material for HVAC/Refrigeration repair jobs.
Inspects and approves work of contractual employees. |
